Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior official said the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
