During an initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “transform” America's largest city, ushering in “a different age” and an audacious start to his term.

A Groundbreaking Mayor

The 34-year-old political star, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He additionally marked a milestone by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
